Do painters talk? At first they’re silent. It’s not easy convincing them to share their stories.

wanted them to talk about themselves – about their paintings, their obsessions, and their successes – but also about their difficulties, things that went wrong, situations that didn't play out in accordance with their plans and dreams; financial success coupled with a lack of fulfillment. She also wanted to know about their visions, their intensely sensual experiences of temporary things, for which words are insufficient, which you can simply…paint.

The interviews collected in this album took place over a period of several years. Some painters have already passed away, their words becoming an unrepeatable document, a mental canvas, and also, perhaps most importantly, a sincere manifestation of artistic attitudes. The album’s choice of artists, representing various schools and generations, is subjective. Objectivity can only be had in assessing the worthiness of their works – works that have achieved significant international acclaim. Polish contemporary art is without a doubt controversial. But it is also, undoubtedly, interesting, creative, and of global importance. It is also, most definitely, alive.
